Research
The Laboratory for Nuclear Energy Systems carried out fundamental and applied research with the aim to support a safe, reliable and economic utilization of nuclear power. The emphasis was on the thermal fluid dynamic modeling applied to nuclear energy systems, whereas selected reactor dynamic, control and instrumentation, and waste disposal issues were included as well.
To this end the laboratory developed measuring instrumentation for single and two-phase flows, performed experiments to obtain the data base for the model development and contributed to the implementation of improved models into computer codes. It promoted the application of modern methods, like 3D simulations and novel experimental methods for safety assessments and improvements as well as for the development of future nuclear energy systems.
